Skincare for Any Age

Your skincare needs change over time due to a variety of factors such as age, hormonal changes, environmental factors, and lifestyle habits. As we age, our skin gets thinner, loses elasticity and produces less oil, which can lead to dryness and wrinkles. Hormonal changes can also affect the skin, causing breakouts or dryness. Environmental factors like pollution and sun exposure can damage the skin, while lifestyle habits such as smoking and poor diet can also have negative effects. Therefore, it's important to adjust your skincare routine and products as your skin's needs change over time.

Your skin is of course unique, and the following are just general guidelines based on typical skin needs based on age. Be sure to modify for your skin’s own individual needs.

Skincare in Your 20s

In your 20s, your biggest concerns will focus on clarity, avoiding breakouts, and preventing sun damage for future skin health. You should use a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer with SPF, and a targeted treatment for any specific skin concerns you may have, such as acne or dark spots. It is also beneficial to incorporate antioxidants and hyaluronic acid into your routine to protect and hydrate your skin.

Skincare in your 30s

In your 30s, your skin will begin to show the first signs of aging. It's important to prioritize skincare that focuses on hydration, fine lines, and sun damage. Look for products that contain retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants to help maintain healthy, youthful-looking skin. (We love Murad Retinol Youth Serum.) Don't forget to also continue to use a daily sunscreen to protect against further damage.

Skincare in your 40s

Rapid reveal peelIn your 40s, your skin will most likely start to lose elasticity and become drier. It's important to consistently use skincare products that contain antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and retinoids to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, keep your skin hydrated, and improve texture. Also continue to wear daily sunscreen to prevent further damage. You may find it beneficial to start doing occasional exfoliating peels and using a heavier night cream for additional moisturizing.

Skincare in your 50s and beyond

As we age, our skin becomes thinner and drier, and may also show signs of sun damage, age spots, and wrinkles. You need to be extra gentle with your skin as you age. It's important to use extra-hydrating skincare products that provide nourishment to the skin, such as moisturizers and serums that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. Add a night cream to your routine, using as often as needed for your skin. Additionally, using products with retinoids or peptides can help improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. And (you knew we were going to say it) keep using sunscreen! We recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
